WoW Insider talk about what they consider to be essential addons when you are battling in the Arena.

There are literally thousands of addons out there, and some of us quickly develop an almost unhealthy reliance on all the bells and whistles. I'm a firm follower of the minimalistic movement: if I hardly interact with a particular addon during a typical game session, it disappears from my AddOns folder, no matter how nice or "useful" it seems. I prefer quicker loading and response times, to conveniences that are situational at best, thank you.

Blizzard FINALLY seem about to do something about the 2v2 Arena queues:

It's an issue, and we're aware and will be making changes to help with the wait times. The change will require a patch, but will not be a part of 2.3.2. I'll state a vague "future patch" just to be safe, but we're hoping to resolve the wait times as soon as possible.

The change will make it so that more instances can kick up in a shorter amount of time. Which doesn't necessarily mean there can't ever be a wait again, but it should drastically decrease them. Of course, prime-time 2v2 is still going to be run the most and susceptible to the longest wait, but our hope would be to make "the longest wait" inconsequential.

Here's another new site, this one providing all the info you'll need to know about Arena teams - and it's taken in real time from the server!

This is a real time cross realm global arena ranking for World of Warcraft. It features all the best teams in 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5 around the globe.

Here's some talk of a pretty crazy pet exploit being used in Arenas, and Blizzards plan to fix it.

Recently I fought an arena team which included a hunter pet named the same as the team's priest. As a result, every time I tried to target the priest via any method other than mousing directly over him (via proximo addon or /target command) I got the pet instead.

I was informed by a GM that this is legal. Is that correct?

If so, may I suggest that all /target functions prioritize targeting players instead of their pets? Or make it impossible for a pet to share the name of a character on the same server.

Season 2 Titles and mounts are still not working...

The investigation into the incorrect awarding of Season 2 titles and mounts is still ongoing across all regions (Europe, the US and Korea).

Though we are aware of your concerns over the delay to resolving this issue, due to the scale and intricacies involved implementing a full solution requires further time and attention. We ask for your patience while the investigation continues, and assure you that it is still a top priority.

Blizzard finally say something constructive about the Arena queues:

Q u o t e:
There are too many people queuing for 2v2s (and Arenas in general), overwhelming the abilities of the Arena-instance servers. The maximum number of createable Arenas is less than the demands. No immediate resolution to this is forthcoming as the devs are waiting to see the broader pictures, outside of the 2.3/S3/holidays playing spike. The other choice, adding in hardware and software support for a noticeably higher number of sustainable instances, carries with it far too many challenges to be undertaken lightly.

I don't think I could have said it any better.

We're definitely aware of the concern and wait times as they stand, and we're looking into what our options are to help. That's a bit vague I know, but the options vary so drastically that all we can say is we're not ignoring it.

Lots of drama in the forums about smurfing... or using lots of different alts and colluding with others to artifically make your Arena rating extremely high - i.e. high enough to become a Gladiator.

I don't know what the season 3 vendors are like now... but earlier they were pretty crazy. Here are some new locations:

For your Season 3 buying pleasure, vendors will be made available in some additional locations. If you want to avoid the crowds in Area 52 there will be vendors selling the same items outside of the NagrandBlade's Edge arenas, as well as in the town of Gadgetzan.

We recommend visiting these alternate locations to ensure you're able to view and purchase the items with the least amount of interference, both from visual lag, and trigger happy players.

This is the second part of WoW Insider's Blood Sport (Arena) column, and I am finding it very helpful so far.
In case you were wondering whether the Arena personal rating requirements will apply to Season 2 stuff... they won't!

Loads of people are pissed off that the start of Arena season 3 has been delayed for a number of reasons:

  • They are honor capped already and will miss the AV weekend
  • They want their Season 1 gear
  • Blizzard should have known what dates Thanksgiving was coming on (duh!)
Everyone is preparing for the start of the third arena season and we’re excited to get new items, rewards, and fresh competition going for everyone participating in the arenas.

As we approach the previously announced start date we’ve had growing concerns of what the new season requires of us to actually launch, and its proximity to the Thanksgiving holiday. Everyone wants the launch go as smoothly as possible, and in order to have resources available to tend to any issues as soon as they may spring up, we’ve decided to delay the Season 3 start date to November 27. One week after the previously announced date.
WoW Insider have a very good post on the composition of PVP Arena teams... which classes work best together, what class combos there are most of, etc. A must read for anyone who plays Arena. Although it ain't listed, my 2v2 Rogue/Lock team does OK! Druids are a pain tho.

Wondering whether the season 3 arena weapons will look different from the current ones? Well yes, they will.

The developers have informed us that the Season 3 Weapons will have new art, so the answer to your question would be yes... There will be new graphics for Season 3 Weapons :-)

Honestly, 2v2 has a ways to go before I'd be truly satisfied with its balance. In fact, at one point during the Burning Crusade beta we considered removing the format in favor of 4v4, but have decided to stick with it since so many players enjoy only needing to find 1 teammate to be able to participate in arenas.

However, 2v2 balance goes beyond just a warlock/druid vs warrior/druid issue, there are a lot of classes out there that are left out of having a reasonable chance at the very high end because of the endurance nature of the format, and drain tank
