Alterac Valley will see a few very significant improvements in the next patch and we wanted to share the details of what we have planned.

The first change will be to move the Horde's starting tunnel back to a more equal distance from the first objectives, which will help evenly distance the starting points for each side across the terrain when the battle commences.

In addition, the General and Warmasters for each faction will receive a stacking buff from each other that boosts their health and damage. The more of them that are still in the battleground, the more dangerous they will all be. This will put a greater focus on destroying (and defending!) the towers that remove the Warmasters as players work toward defeating the appropriate General and conquering the land.
We’ve recently applied a hotfix that increases the hitpoints for both Balinda Stonehearth and Vanndar Stormpike in Alterac Valley. This change is being made to help assist in balancing the opposing sides and their ability to compete in the battleground.

We will continue to track the balance of the battleground and the factions as they fight for supremacy in Alterac Valley, and continue to make further changes as needed.
Here's an interesting question - how is the Alterac Valley boycott by the Alliance going for you? Queues on my server are up over one hour for AV... I'm horde of course.
Oh, how easily we cast aside those we love. Or in this case the battleground you love.

Keep in mind that the AV changes are still in testing on the PTR. We are fully aware of the concerns in regard to honor gains per hour and are continuing to work toward getting the gain closer to what it is now. For instances, we are lowering the amount of reinforcements and raising the honor gain a bit. The daily quests are also going to help. We're still fine tuning the changes with this battleground, however, so it's a bit too soon to say goodbye to it.
As a continuing part of our improvements, we will be implementing the following changes in the next patch.

Strategy can be an important element of any battleground. We want to emphasize this in Alterac Valley more and give players additional meaning to both defending and attacking. To push the strategic element of the battleground to the next level we have changed how players maintain their reinforcements or deprive the other team of theirs.

Each team will have a starting reinforcement count. Reinforcements can be lost in significant amounts if a tower is destroyed or if Captain Galvangar or Belinda Stonehearth is killed. For each team member death, an additional reinforcement will be lost. On the death of General Drek’Thar or Vanndar Stormpike, all reinforcements are lost and the team is defeated. At any point in time, if a team is reduced to zero reinforcements, the opposing team will win the battle. Defending your own teammates, towers, and key NPCs will be an important aspect of maintaining team resources and achieving victory in Alterac Valley.
More changes are coming to AV in the next few weeks... hopefully to make it better!

How many people reporting a player that as AFK'ed in AV will it take to get them a debuff? No one knows...

It does not require 30 people to trigger the AFK buff... I don't know where people are getting this idea.

Don't bother removing the AFK'ers in Alterac Valley Blizzard... instead how about you fix the imbalance between Alliance and Horde? Maybe then so many Horde wouldn't AFK.

This is a request to blizzard to not fix AFKing in AV.

Why? Why wouldn't I want to see AFKers burn.....oh lets see because this is Blizzards way of avoiding a problem and ruining "Horde" only aspect of the game.

Forcing us to get destroyed and feeding Alliance more honor in AV from killing us. GREAT just what i want to do is give Alliance more honor.

I AFK because BLIZZARD will not #!&#!&#&! fix the AV map imbalance you want to end AFKing why not make it possible for Horde to win the freaking thing.

We AFK because we realize if we try all were doing is giving them more honor through kills and the fact either way were going to end up with the same honor from losing.....

So this is a request to leave my AFKing alone so I can enjoy AV weekend while Alliance rip horde off 2x as much honor as we get on AV weeekends and let me play the game how i want. I do more damage to Alliance NOT trying in AV.

Some changes are coming to AV:

There are quite a few changes coming, all of which we hope will culminate into making players want to participate, and ultimately win the battleground.

Obviously as most people know we have the anti-afk reporting measure, by which you can right click on someone in the battleground and mark them as AFK. With enough reports they receive a debuff that keeps them from earning honor in that battleground, and only by entering combat can they remove that debuff. It's going to help, but it's certainly not enough on its own.

Other things we're doing are changing or pulling out NPCs in key locations to help even out the balance of time and effort each side has to take to push through. As well as some minor changes to locations that people find are easily exploited to advance faster.

We're shifting some of the honor from the earlier NPCs, that help make AFKing so lucrative, to the end of the battleground and more for actually winning.

The graveyard spawning is being changed so that players aren't sent back to the cave unless there is nowhere else to spawn, which should help encourage horde to play a bit more defense if they're being beaten back.

And we're also correcting the ... I think Jeff referred to them as "creative pulling mechanics" with the general's.

Everything together, we feel, should help encourage players to participate, while also improving overall balance.

Dear Blizzard,

I am contacting you via forum in regards to announced future changes to Alterac Valley. I Have long watched the constant struggle between the Dwarven Stormpike Expedition and the Frostwolf Clan. It is my earnest opinion that this is an ill-conceived war. I am a loyal Alliance member and do not wish to betray my oath, however, this conflict does not sit well with me.

"After Thrall's triumphant uniting of the clans, the Frostwolves, now led by the Orc Shaman Drek'Thar, chose to remain in the valley they had for so long called their home. In recent times, however, the relative peace of the Frostwolves has been challenged by the arrival of the Dwarven Stormpike Expedition.
The Stormpikes have set up residence in the valley to search for natural resources and ancient relics. Despite their intentions, the Dwarven presence has sparked heated conflict with the Frostwolf Orcs to the south, who have vowed to drive the interlopers from their lands."

By your own words, the DSE has invaded and attempted to occupy land that has clearly belonged to the Frostwolf Clan for many years. These Dwarven marauders have invaded a sovereign land with the sole intention of robbing it's wealth and stripping it's natural resources.

Herein lies my Dillema: How can I, a loyal member of the alliance support such skullduggery? How can I support an effort to supplant indigenous populations and steal their natural resources?

Short answer: I can not.

Fortunately, I have found an acceptable compromise between my outrage and my loyalty. I have become a conscientious objector. While I will not partake in this r@pe of the land and it's people, I also will not abandon my fellow Alliance members.

Thus I peacefully observe the conflict in Alterac Valley from the safety of the Peace Cave, occasionally venturing forth to observe the conflict from other safe vantage points.

Here's a funny video of some guy knocking everyone off the bridge in Alterac Valley thanks to the hard packed snowballs! Funny!
