Here's some pictures of three new mage spells that they get at Level 80.

  • Arcane Explosion (Rank 10)
  • Fire Blast (Rank 11)
  • Frostbolt (Rank 16)

Here's an interesting blog post - should some spells be able to be used in PVE only or PVP only situations? Hell no!

Perhaps it is time that some spells and abilities got tagged as PvP-only or PvE-only. It seems a bit artificial, but it would make balancing a bit easier.

This thought is prompted by the upcoming change to Blessing of Sacrifice in patch 2.2:

  • Blessing of Sacrifice now has a 1-minute cooldown.

It's pretty much aimed at PvP, where Sacrifice is constantly used to break Crowd Control for paladins. However, this change makes Sacrifice useless for both PvP and PvE purposes.

WoW Insider have noticed something - in levels 61 - 70 you can sometimes learn new spells at like level 67 and such, not just the normal even numbered levels. So be sure you visit thottbot and check if there is anything new for you each time you ding!

There's another new system change in the Burning Crusade that I only found out about today. Apparently characters now learn new spells and abilities at odd levels, not just even ones. For example, mages can pick up Frostbolt 12 when they hit 63, druids get a new Shred at 61, and warlocks ... well, warlocks can get a ton of their spells at odd levels like 67 and 69.

Blizz are redoing the way they calculate spell damage etc. It might be a bit heavy for some, but interesting nonetheless...

In the Burning Crusade, we’ve decided to make a fundamental change to the way spells calculate the bonus they receive from +healing and +spell damage effects and items. This is because we have seen a growing trend in using “downranking” and large amounts of +healing items, which we feel negatively impacts game balance. Downranking involves high-level players using lower level spell ranks and +healing gear to conserve mana, but maintain a high rate of healing done. Through this method, it has become possible in the live game for healing characters to heal large amounts of damage indefinitely without running out of mana. To maintain progression of use through spell ranks, we are changing how lower ranked spells relate to characters of higher level.
