Are you wondering whether World of Starcraft is in development? WELL IT AINT.

During a StarCraft Lore panel at BlizzCon 2007, Blizzard's Chief Creative Officer Chris Metzen confirmed that the company, at least as of right now, is not developing World of StarCraft. He said the idea of creating an MMO based on their popular RTS franchise has certainly been discussed at Blizzard, but no steps have actually been taken to create the game.

WoW Insider have created a short, concise list of what we can most likely expect to find the expansion on when Blizzard hopefully announce it at Blizzcon.

  • Obviously, there's Northrend, which contains 13 distinct regions,
  • then there's the South Seas, 5 islands located off the southern coast of the Eastern Kingdoms (and include Zandalar, which I must note already exists in the game) -- on one of these isles you'll find the well-known Goblin city of Undermine,
  • then there are a number of other islands located in the Great Sea: Kul'Tiras, Tol Barad, Crestfall, Zul'Dare, Dragon Isle, Balor, and Pandaria,
  • the Emerald Dream, which could be as large as Azeroth itself.

Here's another post re Blizzcon, expansions, what's coming. This time posted at IGN, so there's a good chance it could be correct, or at least some of it is...

  • That expansion pack is called World of Warcraft: Into the Maelstrom

  • The Maelstrom area of Azeroth will be opened up for play. Will consist of various islands and Undermine will have a new neutral city.

  • The islands will include questing zones, raid dungeons, that city, and a new arena.

  • The level cap is being raised to 80 with the expansion but there will be no new talents.

  • Advancement after level 70 will be through Hero Classes rather than talents. Hero classes will function as subclasses and each existing class will have 3 of these hero classes to choose from. These hero classes will not be limited by talent choices. Players will be able to choose these new subclasses at trainers when ItM goes live.

  • Currently the Priest and Druid hero classes are complete and the Warrior and Mage are close to completion.

  • Hero classes will be demonstrated at BlizzCon

Going to Blizzcon, here's some tips on etiquette there (RP btw).

Meeting other races
Upon meeting a gnome do not assume they would like to be punted across the convention center like a football. Ask them politely, than punt them across the convention center.

Though you may want to be helpful, it is encouraged that you do not bring up the names and numbers of any orthodontist you know to any orc or troll. The protruding fangs are what make them unique.

Night elves are discouraged from dancing. Young children will be attending the convention.

It is impolite to jump upon a tauren’s back and attempt to hold on for 8 sec. as they try
to get you off. The accepted norm is 10 sec.

Upon meeting a blood elf or dwarf it is considered impolite to ask them if they would qualify for the reality show “Intervention.”

It is impolite to refer to any member of the Forsaken as a zombie. Zombies are undead, flesh-eating humans created by George A. Romero. The Forsaken, are undead, flesh-eating humans created by the Lich King.

It is impolite to ask the draenei if they are related to satyrs. That dubious honor belongs
to night elves.

Humans will outnumber all other races at the convention. Only interact with the ones with golden question marks over their heads to go up a level or earn money.

Meeting a Blizz employee
It is impolite to bribe a GM with 20 dollars to take you to GM Island. Pay whatever amount they ask to get the privilege of visiting the island.

When meeting a Dev. ask an original and creative question. For instance, instead of being the 40, 599, 600th person to ask “When you fellas gonna open the instance in SW?”, ask something like, “Why don’t tailors have a recipe to make me a new pair of underwear?”

Miscellaneous
Wait at least a day after the convention to post your swag on any Internet Auction site. That way you can see how much people are truly willing to pay for a code that makes their char. run around in a fish man suit.

New content, whether it be a new expansion, or simply the Zul'Aman content, will be announced/revealed at Blizzcon.

So I opened up my email Friday evening to an interesting message from the BlizzCon people. The majority of the email was on information I already knew, where to pick up badges, etc. And then I hit the bombshell. They let me know that I will be able to copy my own character over to a test server in order to test new World of Warcraft content. This to me is the first major confirmation of what we already know: that a new expansion will be announced next Friday. Unless, of course, the only new content will be Zul'Aman, in which case Amanda will cry bitter, salty tears into her flat convention soda.
